In order to achieve success and maximize business efficiency, every business owner must know the answers to each of these questions:

  1. Do you know what will happen to your business should you or your partner die or become disabled?
  2. Yes / No

  3. Do you have a plan to maximize and protect business value?
  4. Yes / No

  5. Do you have a plan to attract new talent and retain key employees? Do you have incentives for key employees to stay? Are they tax efficient?

  7. Have you explored tax advantaged deferred compensation plans that favor the highly compensated?

  9. Have you implemented value drivers and operational mechanisms in your business to increase and measure its value so that you receive optimum value when you decide to sell to a third party or top management or transition the business to family?

  23. In today's changing tax environment, have you taken advantage of new and recent tax minimization strategies?

  25. Do you have a written agreement in place for all employees to prevent them from taking customers, trade secrets, employees or vendor/manufacturers with them after they leave?
